The extra room: children or computer?

Among the many changes brought by the pandemic in the real estate sector, one of the most striking has been the need for more space inside one’s home. And, unlike what one might have expected just a couple of years ago, this is not about having an extra room for a child – whether already there or still just a wish – but rather for work!
Simply to work.
This growing tendency towards smart working – and in many cases, an unavoidable choice – has made it necessary to reorganize domestic spaces, especially for larger families.
On top of that, there is also the issue of distance learning, which can suddenly be imposed whenever a positive test emerges within a class.
Many families, whether of two, three, or more people, have found themselves facing an emergency in terms of space, privacy, and the need for quiet.
Before the pandemic – by now spoken of as easily as we do of B.C. and A.D. – our clients used to ask us for larger homes with an extra room for their children. But now, the “children” have become the computer, the printer, and the webcam.
And this trend that favors working from home is certainly not as temporary as distance learning. Students are already back in their classrooms, and the goal is to fully return to so-called normality. For work, however, the new normal has become smart working… smarter and increasingly remote.
Of course, co-working spaces are always an option, and nowadays there’s truly something for every taste – though not necessarily for every budget. This is why setting up a home office remains more than convenient: it saves money and allows parents to stay at home with their younger children.
We can confirm this with our statistics: since the beginning of the pandemic, we have sold more two- and three-bedroom apartments than smaller one-bedroom homes.

This reflection helps us understand why certain properties in our agency spark more interest than others. For example, Via Diaz (Ref. T4090), which combines elegance, convenience, and three bedrooms, can be the perfect solution. Or the many apartments in the Verdemare residence in Campo Marzio, which also offer a priceless safe outdoor area for children: a communal park closed to outsiders and easily supervised from home (e.g. V-C006, V-A201, V-B002). Even outside the historic center, in Via Rossetti (Ref. T4035), an apartment not only offers three bedrooms, but also a terrace and a very practical garage.
